Highlighting Excellence in Pediatrics: UPMC Children’s at the 2025 PAS Meeting

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics had a strong presence at the 2025 Pediatric Academic Societies Meeting (PAS) Annual Meeting, held April 24–28 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The PAS Annual Meeting is a premier gathering for pediatric researchers, clinicians, and educators worldwide. It provides an opportunity for clinicians to present research, foster new ideas, and advance child and adolescent health through global collaboration.

Known for its pioneering research, cutting-edge clinical programs, excellence in academic research, and exceptional faculty, residents, and fellows, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Department of Pediatrics were prominently featured through multiple presentations, workshops, networking events, and educational sessions that underscored its leadership in pediatric care.

Showcasing Clinical Leadership and Research Excellence

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics members were deeply engaged across a variety of scientific and educational forums. Their work demonstrated a blend of academic rigor and practical innovation aimed at improving outcomes for children and families.

PAS Education Sessions

Exhibit Space, Trainee Zone Presentation, and Reception

Throughout the event, attendees connected with UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh at booth #609, where faculty and representatives shared insights into the hospital’s 11 nationally ranked specialties, robust residency and fellowship training opportunities, and research initiatives.

On Saturday, April 26, faculty members including Srinivasan Suresh, MD, MBA, FAAP, Chief Information Officer, Chief Medical Information Officer, and Vice President of UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Terence Dermody, MD, Vira I. Heinz Distinguished Professor and Chair of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, led a session titled "Training the Next Generation of Pediatricians" in the Trainee Zone, highlighting mentorship pathways, academic leadership in Pittsburgh, and the importance of clinician-researchers in shaping the future of pediatric medicine.

UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh also hosted a well-attended Colleagues, Alumni, and Friends Reception on Sunday, April 27, at the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort.

Andrew Nowalk, MD, PhD, associate professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and clinical director in the Division of Infectious Diseases at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and Srinivasan Suresh, MD, MBA, FAAP, served as co-hosts of the event and welcomed all leaders in pediatrics, offering an opportunity to celebrate collaboration and reconnect with former trainees and colleagues who now practice across the country.

We closed out PAS 2025 by forging meaningful connections, sharing transformative research, and reinforcing its commitment to collaborative progress in pediatric health. Looking forward to next year's event in Boston!
